Kathy Reid wins Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award

I am very excited to announce that Mrs. Kathy Reid, our amazing first grade teacher, has received the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award. This well-deserved award will be presented to her and 4 other Catholic school teachers at a special awards ceremony and reception on Nov. 13 at the Sheldon Concert Hall. Emerson Electric honors approximately 100 kindergarten through college level educators yearly. Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Reid on this recognition of her hard work and talent as an educator.

Fourth Graders Head To Jefferson City

After spending the year learning all about Missouri history, the 4^th grade took a year-end trip to Jefferson City to experience first-hand the workings of our state government. The students met with our local state representative and senator and even a Supreme Court Judge. They also got to see our state legislature in session. The students wowed everyone with their knowledge of Missouri facts and learned even more fun things about Missouri during their trip. It was a great time, and was an experience that they will surely not soon forget!

St. Ann Spelling Bee

A few weeks ago was the St. Ann Spelling Bee.

Congratulations to all the participants:

Gr. 4 Mikayla Alexander, Maya Martin, and Felix Opiyo;
Gr. 5 Jaedon Deskins, Matthew David, and Zachary Hohenstein;
Gr. 6 Martin Oyalo, Liam Quinlisk, and Christian Moore-Eston;
Gr. 7 Steven Harrington, Isabelle Nelson, and Laynie Smith; and
Gr. 8 Jessica Nance, Gabby O’Brien, and Ronay Haynie.

The fifth graders swept the competition, taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd place!

The winner was Jaedon Deskins. Congratulations!

Thanks to Mr. Al Fisher who organized the event and acted as the emcee.

St. Louis Circumnavigation 2

St. Ann Catholic School teacher and owner of Big Muddy Adventures, Michael F. Clark, along with expedition partner, John Ruskey of Quapaw Canoe Company have been leading annual adventure learning expeditions each of the past nine years. This year, they will be setting off on a circumnavigation route of St. Louis by canoe. The expedition goal is to document the natural beauty and human impact on the rivers that sustain St. Louis and its region and to produce and implement an extraordinary educational experience for elementary school students.

Academic Bowl 2011

On Thursday Feb. 3rd St. Ann students competed in an Academic Bowl. Every student gathered in the Parish Center where they sat with their buddies. Each table was led by an 8th grade student. The questions were contributed by the teachers and Mrs. Reid acted as MC. She read 5 rounds of 10 questions each. When all was said and done, the difference between the first place team and the second place team was one correct answer!

Mad Science Program Comes To St. Ann

A Mad Scientist gave a fun and exciting presentation to the 1st thru 5th grade classes. She performed 3 experiments and asked for volunteers to demonstrate some scientific principles. She told the students about a Mad Scientist after-school program being offered at St. Ann. Information was sent home to the parents in the Friday envelope.

Catholic Schools Week 2011

Jan. 31-Feb. 4 is the celebration of Catholic Schools Week. The national theme for this year is Catholic Schools – A+ for America. The St. Louis theme is Catholic Schools – Alive in Christ! Special activities will be planned every day. A schedule will be sent home in mid-January. A special Family Mass is planned for Wed., Feb. 2, at 8:20. Following Mass we will have treats in the Parish Center while the students perform.

Science Lab in Action

6th Grade Camp

Oct. 19-21 the students in our 6th grade class will join 6th grade students from Christ the King School at Sherwood Forest Camp for their Outdoor Education Program. There will be lots of fun activities including team-building, group dynamics, and leadership challenges. All of the 7th and 8th grade students loved their experiences at camp, especially Tango Tower! Mrs. Julie Thompson will be with them along with 2 moms and 2 dads to help supervise.

High school acceptance letters were mailed on Feb. 5, 2010. We are pleased to announce that each of our eighth grade students was accepted at his/her first-choice high school. The students are very happy!
